Are you coachable?
My current school uses more than one type of coaching systems. My current principal implements both the teacher-initiated coaching and administrator initiated coaching systems. I think it's wise to provide opportunities for teachers to volunteer and arrange to be in a coaching relationship with their school appointed instructional coach. This provides teachers with a more comfortable transition. Whereas, under the administrator- initiated coaching relationship, the principal will request this coaching relationship. This can make a teacher feel as if they are being watched and or the principal does not have confidence in their teaching ability. According to Marzano and Simms(2013) “Assigning coaches to teachers can sometimes make it difficult for the coach to build trust,especially if the teacher views the coach as someone who will evaluate them or share the content of coaching sessions with an administrator” (p. 212).
